RELEASE DATE SET FOR DOCUMENTARY ON BASEBALL FAN CULTURE
CHICAGO (July 14, 2009)—The bawdy baseball documentary about the exceptional fan culture surrounding Wrigley and U.S. Cellular fields during the 2008 Crosstown Classic Series has been officially scheduled for release on September 12, 2009.
The 30-minute documentary by local filmmaker Bryan Bankovich captures the crowd’s speedy transition from the predictable past times of tailgaiting and cornhole to the spirited chaos wrought from raging loyalties and unchecked hopes of supremacy.
“My film is more about the experience insofar as attempting to make you feel like you are actually bearing witness to this madness,” Bankovich said. “Fans dictated the plot for this film. I can’t even grasp the idea of scripting these events."
The film stands alone as an ethnographic comedy about a city divided by loyalties and lifestyles. In a series of impromptu interviews, what one team’s fans have to say about the other’s often cuts deeper than a rallying cry to touch on areas of race, economic privilege and opportunity.
In 2008 when the film was shot, the Cubs and the White Sox were both ranked first in their divisions, and the Cubs had a chance to nab their first World Series title in more than one-hundred years.
The film will be available for sale online at the official movie Web site, www.acrosstownclassicfilm.com, and at participating retailers around Chicago.
